On April 25, 2026, in Chile, Olympic champion Erislandy Alvarez suffered an unexpected defeat on the professional ring.

The 25-year-old Cuban lost by knockout to the 27-year-old boxer from Panama, Jose Nunez.

The fight started successfully for Alvarez – already in the first round he sent his opponent to a knockdown. However, in the second round Nunez managed to seize the initiative, forcing an exchange of punches. During one of the attacks, the Panamanian sent Alvarez to a heavy knockdown.

The Cuban managed to get up, but looked unsteady on his feet, after which the referee decided to stop the fight.
