Rinat Abdullov is the man who nurtured an entire era of Perm sambo. Master of Sports of the USSR. People's Coaching Mentor of Russia. Judge of Republican Category. 60 years on the mat. 40 masters of sports. The numbers are impressive. But behind them are destinies. His students became champions, doctors, businessmen, ministers. But they all started with the same thing - the wrestling mat in the hall where Abdullov trained.

From Boxing to Sambo - One Random Throw
Everything started with boxing. At 14, Rinat joined the section at the Lenin Palace in Krasnokamsk. But fate had other plans.
Mining and industrial school in Kizel. Friendly wrestling matches in the dormitory. The stocky guy pins everyone around him to the mat. The wrestling coach Belkanov watches and doesn't understand: “You're a wrestler. What are you doing climbing into the ring?” Once, Belkanov entered Abdullov into the city freestyle wrestling competitions without asking. Second place. But it was far from the regional championship - natural talent alone wasn't enough.
The Meeting That Changed Everything
After the army, Abdullov returned to Krasnokamsk. There was no work in his specialty. He enrolled in a technical college. And then - history repeated itself.
Alexander Shirokov was actively developing sambo in the city. Rinat's friends went to training. Again - friendly grappling. Again - surprised faces. Again - the coach noticed talent.
Shirokov asked to bring Rinat to the gym. They gave him a sambovka. Put him in a match. The opponent ended up on the mat twice.
Shirokov said something that was remembered for life: “You can't just take and bury your talent.”
From that day, wrestling came into Abdullov's life forever.
60 Years by the Mat
A year later, Rinat was already helping Shirokov with training. In 1964, he himself became a coach. He replaced his mentor, who had been promoted.
SC “Russia” offered to become a professional coach. Abdullov agreed. The results didn't take long - his students began winning at regional competitions.
But to grow further, an environment was needed. Abdullov achieved the opening of sections in Chusovoy, Kizel, Solikamsk. He established the Belyaev cosmonaut memorial tournament (1971) - the first with the right to award Master of Sports of the USSR.
The first master appeared - Stanislav Yudin. Followed by Pon'kiny, Antropov, Lobovikov. In 1972 - Alexander Patokin (prize-winner of the USSR youth championship). Vasily Shvaya joins the group - future Merited Master of Sports, who made Perm sambo famous worldwide.
Perm. Dynamo. Zenith.
- 1976 - move to Perm SO “Dynamo”. New tournament - youth tournament for Komsomol prizes. Geography - the whole country, including union republics.
- 1978 - “Ural” club (SO “Zenith”). A year later - victory in the team standings at the Central Council “Zenith” championship. Belokrylov and Yusupov fulfill the Master of Sports of the USSR norm.
- 1980 - creation of DYuSSh “Uralets”. One of the first centers for judo development in Perm.
- 1986 - chairman of the Sverdlovsky district sports committee. Organization of the final of the IX Winter Spartakiad of the Peoples of the RSFSR. But the main thing - attention to children's sports and mass events.
On Pension - Doesn't Mean on Vacation
- 1999. Retirement. But Abdullov doesn't leave. Finds a gym. Finds a sponsor. Repairs the premises. Gathers a group. Result - two more Masters of Sports of Russia: Alexander Shishkin and Natalia Krivoshchekova. El'mira Vikilova wins the Russian championship, becomes a prize-winner of the world and European championships.
- In the same 1999, Abdullov establishes the memorial tournament for his mentor - Alexander Shirokov. 2024 - 24th tournament. Gathers the strongest sambists of the Urals. 84 years old. Still in service.
Today, Rinat Zarifovich works as a coach in the hand-to-hand combat sports complex in the village of Novye Lyady.
60 years of coaching. About 40 masters of sports. 4 masters of sports of international class. 12 students became coaches.
His students are not only champions. They are doctors, professors, ministers, businessmen. People who build the country. But they all started with one man - Rinat Abdullov.
