Mixed martial arts began to actively develop in Russia in the 2000s on the wave of growing popularity of professional MMA leagues. Parallel to commercial promotions, there arose a need to create an amateur structure that would make this sport accessible for mass participation with a priority on the safety of participants. It was precisely to accomplish this task that the Russian Mixed Martial Arts Federation was created.

The organization began its work in the 2010s with the opening of the first regional branches. From 2015 to 2020, the FSE demonstrated rapid growth, expanding its presence to 45 subjects of the Russian Federation. Since the 2020s, the federation has focused on the active development of youth programs, improvement of the club championship and tournament system at various levels.

The key mission of the FSE of Russia is to create and support a sustainable network of sports clubs and schools across the country. The organization systematically works on preparing athletes for participation in international competitions, forms the main judging panel, and improves the qualifications of the judging corps. Special attention is paid to the training and regular improvement of the coaching staff through seminars, symposia, conferences, and lectures involving leading industry specialists.

The Federation actively develops international ties with mixed martial arts organizations, represents Russian athletes on the international stage, and participates in organizing joint events. The FSE promotes the recognition of mixed martial arts as an official sport and its inclusion in the All-Russian Register of Sports, which will open new opportunities for athletes and coaches.

An important direction of work is to promote the development of physical culture and sports among various population groups. The organization creates conditions for the protection and strengthening of athletes' health, provides participants in the training and competitive process with the necessary conditions for preparation. The FSE consistently fights for moral purity in sports and cooperates with interested physical, legal, and public-law entities that share the organization's statutory goals.

Today, the Russian Mixed Martial Arts Federation holds regular regional and all-Russian level competitions, organizes educational events for specialists, and works on strengthening and expanding the material and technical base. The “ProBoi” ecosystem provides tools for athlete registration, license management, and tournament entry submissions, simplifying interaction between clubs, coaches, and competition organizers.
